It is not an easy task to divide the canton of Uri with its variety into separate climbing areas. On the one hand the valleys are helpful for the orientation, on the other hand a climbing region is basically related to the appropriate rocks or rock faces. These are to be found mostly in all of the valleys, but they are of various quality and that is the crucial point.
In order to get an overall view, one arranges the canton of Uri in individual main areas and subdivides these subsequently in smaller subareas.
