Culture & tradition

Paths, footbridges and alpine passes in all directions have determined the history of Uri for centuries. The bridge to the South and to another area of culture and speech has left its mark in Uri's architecture and cuisine, as well as in the consistently captivating mythology. Johann Wolfgang Goethe and King Ludwig II from Bavaria had described the fascination of Uri.

Culturally, the canton of Uri has to offer a considerable range of baroque churches and numerous chapels, castles and many historically important sites. Still today the tradition lives on in arts and crafts, popular theatre plays, as well as in concerts and folkloric performances.
