7th Stage: Alp Biel–Chinzigpass–Geiss Ridge–Ratzi

Berggasthaus Ratzi © Uri Gotthard hoch hinaus

Biel–Ratzi

From Chinzig pass (2070 m) you start first with a short descent towards the Alp Chinzertal. After 100 meters, turn right and take the white-blue-white marked route to the east in the direction of Gamperstock. At the beginning the trail strenously leads the hiker over pitted terrain and into a sensational unparalleled lime landscape.

A path does not exist, so it is an advantage to keep an eye on the next sign post in the area.
You cross a vast limestone landscape north of the Geiss ridge. Its diverse forms are fascinating and force you to linger.
In intense sunshine the play between light and shadow is especially fascinating to watch.
Without losing too much altitude, you can avoid Gamperstock in the north. At the eastern part of the mountain we ascent until Grätli (2190 m). Those who feel like climbing, can climb the almost 100 meter higher Gamperstock via Grätli. A marvelous panorama compensates for this side trip.
The path down leads from Grätli, passing avalanche barriers above Sidenplagg, towards Obere Gisleralp (1837 m), and further on to a road by Obflüe (1710 m).
Now, you go downwards to the mountain restaurant Ratzi to still your considerable thirst.
